How to make your own Art Straw Oboe!

1. To make your Oboe you will need an Art Straw and a pair of scissors...

2. Pinch the end of your Art Straw together with your finger and thumb...

3. Next, using your scissors, cut a 'spear-point' at the top of your squashed straw...

4. It should look like this...

You have finished constructing your Art Straw Oboe - Well done!

But now the REAL challenge begins! Playing it!!

How to Play Your Art Straw Oboe

1. Place the Art Straw between your lips - DO NOT LET IT GET SOGGY!

2. Blow gently until you hear a 'buzzing' sound

3. You may need to use your finger and thumb to pinch a little more of the straw, further down to get the sustained sound desired

4. FINALLY, when you have your Oboe working, if you cut the straw shorter from the bottom then you may find that something interesting happens to the sound! Can you tell what it is?

Different pitches are made by the straw being longer or shorter.
